It is with the deepest of sadness that we inform the football community of the passing of one of its favourite sons Doug Scholz.
Doug died suddenly from a heart attack on Thursday night.
Doug was known to all in the football world and had literally done it all. A great player for both Pennant Hills and the Baulkham Hills Falcons, Doug also coached at junior and senior level and took the Baulkham Hills Falcons under 20 side to the clubs first ever senior premiership. In 1991 Doug also led the club to its first ever First Grade premiership in the SFL Division one competition. Doug was tireless in his endeavours to develop football talent in Sydney and his legacy will be seen for years to come.
Doug won the Snow medal in 1990 for Baulkham Hills, and 2 Sanders Medals for Pennant Hills in 1997 and 1998.
Doug was always active in the football scene. He was a player, a coach, an administrator, an umpire and also a commentator in the early days of the Sydney AFL television broadcasts.
He was also very well respected as an educator through his work as the coordinator of PDHPE at St Josephs College.
The thoughts and wishes of all at East Coast go out to his wife Jenny and his two children Matt and Katie.
The East Coast Eagles will wear black armbands and observe a minutes silence prior to the first grade game against North Shore this weekend in Doug's honour.
Further information will be published here when it comes to hand.
He will be missed by all. |
